- Three students were victims of armed robberies early Saturday morning
- MPD and DPS believe the incidents are related
- One suspect is in custody in connection with the crimes
According to an e-mail update sent to students Tuesday afternoon, MPD has identified the second suspect and is currently attempting to locate him.
The first robbery, which occurred in the 2100 block of West Kilbourn Avenue, involved a 22-year-old female student. According to MPD reports, the woman was approached while entering her apartment building lobby.
The suspect displayed a black and silver handgun and demanded the victim's personal property, which included her purse and cell phone. The suspect also obtained keys to a Chevy pick-up truck the student had driven to her apartment, the MPD report said.
After robbing the student, the suspect drove off in the stolen truck. An additional male suspect was involved in the second robbery. He left the scene, driving a white mini-van.
Approximately 10 minutes after the first incident, the two suspects approached two male students in the 700 block of North 18th Street near O'Donnell Hall. According to Department of Public Safety reports, both subjects displayed handguns and demanded the victim's personal property.
The students were then transported to ATM machines in the white van and forced to withdraw money, according to DPS. After the suspects received the money, the students were dropped off in separate off-campus locations.
Both students sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident, and were treated at a local hospital and released.
"We're fine, and the right steps are being taken," said one of the male victims, who asked to remain anonymous. "We don't want to sensationalize this and glorify the guys who did it."

The real problem here is the ATM, not the campus. The crime is called the "Express Kidnapping" If the victim's unlucky enough to have much cash in the account, he or she is taken to a remote location, executed and the body hidden so that the criminal can clean out the account. (Continued…)
